ASSOCIATION
FOR THE PHYSICALLY DISABLED (www.apd.org.za)
(NPO 000-865; PBO 930006515)
BB is a division of a highly respected social benefits
organisation with limited financial resources but extensive
knowledge about the disability sector and vast experience
in rendering health and welfare services to people with
disabilities (more than 500 000 since its inception)
– the Association for the Physically Disabled:
Greater Johannesburg (pre 1987 the Cripples’ Care
Association).
APD is a registered NPO and PBO and qualifies fully
under the socio-economic section on contributors’
scorecards.
Since 1934 the APD has helped thousands of South Africans
to overcome the tragic consequences of physical disability;
to discover for themselves that There IS life after
physical disability. Presently they touch the lives
of about 8 000 people per year through their
Social Work Services
Attendant Care Home-Based Services
Lean on Us Home Care Agency
Protective Workshops
Daveyton Assessment and Motivation Centre
Operation Mobility (Wheelchair Repairs & Rental
Service) and
Skyward Employment Service
They are very proud of the fact that they render all
these services at a cost of under R3 per beneficiary
per day. With less than 50% coming from government subsidies,
they obviously need public support to secure their close
on R5 million per annum operating budget.
Some of their very valued past and present supporters
include: AECI, Anglo American, Anglogold Ashanti, Consol,
De Beers, Department of Social Development, Department
of Health, Department of Labour, First Rand Foundation,
Ispat Iscor, Momentum Fund, National Lottery Development
Trust Fund, Nedcor, Quinedge, Teljoy and Toyota SA.
