HALL
OF SHAME
An integral part of the BB Ratings campaign is to encourage
the proprietors of buildings, especially shopping malls,
to introduce a wheel-clamping system whereby able bodied
motorists who park in disability bays are fined R500,
and the proceeds from the offences donated to either
BB, or any other welfare organisation working with people
with disabilities.
There are many places where this system already exists,
and kudus to those mangers/owners who have done so,
but the system is only as good as the implementation
thereof. Sadly policy often does not ensure results.
Shoot them in the act!
BB calls on all South Africans to become disability
parking bay watchdogs. We know that most South Africans
object to able bodied motorists parking in our bays.
We also know that these offenders are often not just
inconsiderate, but also aggressively defensive when
challenged. That is why we do not expect you to enter
into a situation that could become confrontational and
abusive. BB has the muscle to handle the situation.
All we ask of you, is to use your cell phone. Take
a photograph that clearly shows the registration number
of the car and that it is parked in a disability bay,
note the time, date and where the vehicle was parked,
and e-mail this along with your details to BB. You will
remain anonymous. We will not only publish valid photographs
here, but also send copies to the local newspaper that
operates in that area. In addition, we will pursue the
matter with the owner/proprietor of the building and
the appropriate traffic authorities.
Need to get it off your
chest?
Whether you are a person with a disability or an able
bodied person; if you are aware of anything that impacts
negatively on the rights of our people, or just want
to air your views,
.
